Inp.polri.go.id - Semarang.  In an effort to foster a conducive atmosphere during the 2024 election period, the Semarang City Sub-regional Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Irwan Anwar, has engaged with members of academia to implement a "cooling system." "Our responsibility as guardians of public safety in Semarang City is to create a conducive environment throughout the 2024 election process," he said on Wednesday (7/2/2024). This "cooling system" involves various measures, including collaboration with community leaders, youth figures, religious leaders, and academia. Chief Irwan said that the involvement of academia aims to support the peaceful conduct of elections, without any ulterior motives. He clarified that any comments or messages from academia in video form, solicited for public consumption, have been approved for publication. "There is no coercion for those willing to provide testimonials or messages regarding public order and security," Chief Irwan asserted. Furthermore, he assured that the police force will remain neutral in providing security during the 2024 elections. "There are no directives to support any particular candidate. The presence of the police represents the presence of the state," Chief Irwan said. According to data from the Indonesian General Election Commission (KPU), the final voter list for the 2024 elections consists of 204,807,222 eligible voters. (mg/ndt/hn/nm)
