Inp.polri.go.id - Semarang. Seven people lost their lives in a devastating bus accident that occurred on the Semarang-Batang Toll Road early Thursday morning (11/4/2024).
The ill-fated incident involved a Rosalia Indah bus at kilometer 370 of the toll road in Kendal Regency, Central Java, antaranews.com reported.
Confirming the grim event, Senior Superintendent Satake Bayu Setianto, the Head of Public Relations for the Central Java Regional Police, explained that the bus was traveling from Jakarta to Semarang.
However, at kilometer 370, the bus, bearing license plate number AD 7019 OA, veered off the road, plunging into a ditch on the roadside, he said.
Initial assessments pointed to driver fatigue as a probable cause, with the bus operator allegedly dozing off behind the wheel, leading to the vehicle's tragic departure from its designated route.
The bus was carrying a total of 34 passengers, including the driver and the bus conductor. In addition to the deceased victims, fifteen other passengers sustained injuries in the accident.
Emergency responders have evacuated seven deceased victims to the Weleri Islamic Hospital in Kendal Regency.
