Inp.polri.go.id - Pangkalan Kerinci. The Pelalawan Sub-regional Police arrested a 25-year-old man accused of brutally killing dogs and selling their meat for human consumption in Riau.
“From our investigation, suspect GA slaughtered dogs by mistreating them before selling the meat. We confiscated 12 kilograms of dog meat along with cooking equipment,” said Assistant Senior Inspector I Gede Yoga Eka Pranata, the Head of the Pelalawan Police Criminal Investigation Unit, on Tuesday (16/9/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.
Officers also seized a machete, chopping board, and a gas stove allegedly used to process the meat. Police said the suspect’s actions violated Indonesian law and caused public unrest.
Authorities vowed to crack down on all forms of animal cruelty, including the dog meat trade, which is illegal under livestock and animal health laws. Suspect GA faces charges under the 2014 Animal Husbandry and Health Law and the Criminal Code on animal abuse.
A similar case was reported in Pekanbaru, where a father and son were caught slaughtering dogs for meat sales.
