Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) and the Indonesian National Police signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on assistance in maintaining security in the implementation of agricultural development programs at the National Police Headquarters, South Jakarta, Tuesday (11/16).
On this occasion, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo revealed that the MoU, to support and accelerate all the Ministry of Agriculture's programs for the people of Indonesia, can run well and smoothly.
"We have just signed the MoU or memorandum of understanding which will be followed up with a PKS (Cooperation Agreement) carried out by key officials with the relevant director-general at the Ministry of Agriculture. This MoU is, of course, carried out in order to encourage and accelerate so that the program from the Ministry of Agriculture can run with optimal results," said Sigit.
Regarding the agricultural sector, Sigit emphasized that it concerns the livelihoods of 273 million Indonesians, which must be met every day. Therefore, according to Sigit, food security must be met by increasing productivity.
There are 273 million people or people who must be met every day, related to the problem of food needs. So this is our concern about encouraging agricultural productivity to increase day by day, said the former Banten Regional Police Chief.
The former head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police revealed that the MoU also discussed the use of agricultural land development that had not been touched. In addition, Sigit also stated, strategic efforts are needed to utilize the existing land by modernizing agriculture.
"So that the growth or quality of production increases. Besides that, it also takes advantage of new lands that currently may not be touched, and this is our program to develop these two things," said Sigit.
With this memorandum of understanding, Sigit emphasized that the National Police will support all programs of the Ministry of Agriculture in realizing food security for the people of Indonesia.
The realization of food security, according to Sigit, will have a positive impact on Indonesia, including reducing dependence on imports and increasing domestic exports.
"In the past two years, we have not imported rice. This is certainly an achievement from the Ministry of Agriculture, and we will continue to support in the future to reduce this kind of dependency. Furthermore, we can increase our exports," said Sigit.
Sigit explained, in realizing food security, the National Police has also played an active role in the Food Estate program. That way, the agricultural and livestock sectors in the community can be maximized.
"The Food Estate program which is currently being developed is our concern for this to work. So how do we have agricultural land, extensive livestock, which can meet the food needs of the Indonesian people? In the future, it will be realized," said Sigit.
"More deeply, Sigit said, amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the agricultural sector is currently able to contribute a fairly large Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In fact," said Sigit, enough to carry out exports.
"This is something to be proud of. "We from the police will continue to support and synergize to support the program in realizing food security, how to reduce imports and increase exports this can be carried out properly," said Sigit.
Meanwhile, Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo emphasized that the Ministry of Agriculture cannot move and work alone. Therefore, he stated, urgently needed assistance from the National Police to fulfil the food needs of the Indonesian people.
Of course, the Ministry of Agriculture cannot do it alone. "It must be together with the existing elements; we are grateful that the National Police Chief is willing to back up fully," said Syahrul at the same time.
