inp.polri.go.id - Papua. Papua Regional Police assure that the situation in Boven Digoel has returned to normal after the burning of regent’s office by the protesters of the late Marius Batarop.

The PR Chief of Papua Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Ignatius Benny Ady says that the commotion began when the family of Late Marius suddenly blocked the Trans Papua road on Tuesday (7/9/2024).

“After blocking the road, the mass then went to the Boven Digoel Regent’s Office and began to harass it,” said Benny.

After acquiring the information of the disturbance, Boven Digoel Sub-regional Police personnel immediately went to the location. After a brief talk with the mass, it was revealed that the protesters are disappointed with the lack of attention from the regional government for the passing of Marius Batarop, who is the local figure of the region.

“They were then leaving the location after they talked with the regional government officials,” said the police official.

For the disturbance that occurred, every window of the office was shattered and three cars were heavily damaged.

The Boven Digoel Sub-regional Police Chief, Superintendent Wisnu Perdana Putra adds that the police is now investigating the case.
