inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Information is currently working on making the  "112" to be the national emergency and disaster hotline number that can be used by the public.

The Directorate General of Postal and Informatics Services (Ditjen PPI) Marvel Situmorang, said that currently the "112" has indeed been used by local governments for emergency services, but its nature is still sporadic and not integrated.

Currently, the Ministry is conducting a feasibility study to make 112 a national strategic program (PSN). As of Monday (9/23/2024), Marvel’s party noted that 142 out of 514 cities and regencies in Indonesia have used 112 as an emergency hotline.

However, the use of the hotline number is not optimized yet and still requires massive integration by the central government so that in the future people will immediately call the hotline in any emergency situation.

As a reference, the 112 hotline number will work similarly to the use of 911 in the United States (US) which can be used to call for the police, ambulances, and other disaster mitigation.

The national emergency contact 112 will be part of the Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) or in Indonesia it is designated as the National Communication System for Community Protection and Disaster Management (SISKOMNAS PMPB).
