Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Investors from South Korea and China have expressed interest in participating in Indonesia’s long-delayed Giant Sea Wall project, State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said on Tuesday (17/6/2025).
“Some [investors] have informally indicated interest—particularly from China and from Korea, during the recent Indonesia–Korea forum,” he told reporters at the Presidential Palace, as reported by antaranews.com
Though no lead investor has been confirmed, the government is preparing to launch the project, originally planned by the National Planning Agency (Bappenas) since 1995.
Spanning 500 kilometers from Banten to Gresik in East Java, the massive sea wall aims to address coastal flooding and land subsidence along Java’s northern coast.
“Each year, land subsidence continues. During high tide, residents along Jakarta’s northern coast face dire conditions,” State Secretary Prasetyo said.
The $80 billion (around Rp 1,297 trillion) project is currently under cross-ministerial and regional coordination. Prasetyo hopes construction can begin this year.
President Prabowo previously acknowledged the project may take 20 years to complete.
