Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Chairman Suhartoyo of the Constitutional Court (MK) anticipated a notable increase in election dispute lawsuits for the 2024 elections compared to those in 2019, considering the increasing registration numbers for such cases. "The current volume of filings surpasses previous years, indicating a potential surge. In 2019, we handled 262 cases, but this year, the prediction suggests a higher figure," he said on Sunday (24/3/2024). The registration period for the election dispute lawsuits for the 2024 elections concluded on 23 March 2024. As of the latest update, the official MK website has recorded a total of 265 applications. These include 2 presidential election dispute applications, 10 parliamentary election dispute applications for the Regional Representatives Council (DPD), and 253 parliamentary election dispute applications for the House of Representatives (DPR). Chairman Suhartoyo estimated that the figure is likely to reach around 280 applications, showcasing a considerable increase compared to previous cycles. Furthermore, he highlighted a common trend where some parties submit lawsuits after the registration deadline has passed. While acknowledging this phenomenon, the Constitutional Court remains committed to processing all submissions, as per its judicial obligations. However, Chairman Suhartoyo emphasized that applications submitted after the deadline would undergo scrutiny by the judges' panel, considering formal requirements before proceeding. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
