Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Director of ASEAN Cooperation at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sidharto Suryodipuro revealed that three countries have expressed their interest in becoming ASEAN partners, namely Saudi Arabia, Panama, and Spain.

"Every year, there are countries that want to be part of the treaty by signing the accession instrument. Today, the senior officials discussed the readiness of countries that will accede this year. Saudi Arabia, Panama, and Spain are among those that are ready," he said on Monday (8/5/23).

Indonesia will coordinate the readiness of the three countries to sign the treaty. "As the chair, Indonesia is coordinating with them regarding their readiness to sign the treaty this year," he added.

Meanwhile, regarding the Timor-Leste's membership, he mentioned that a roadmap containing important elements has been discussed. These include legal instruments, financial contribution schemes, and the strengthening of the country's civil servant capacity to prepare for the full participation in ASEAN.

Indonesia's priorities and shared interests with ASEAN will be discussed in detail at the upcoming foreign ministers' meeting prior to being addressed at the 42nd ASEAN Summit.
