Inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh.  In a recent development, two residents in East Aceh found two firearms neatly wrapped in a sack in their garden and promptly handed them over to the on-duty East Aceh Sub-regional Police officers, which were conducting a routine patrol over the weekend, The Chief of East Aceh Police, Superintendent Nova Suryandaru, said on Monday (29/1/2024) that the firearms were believed to be remnants from past conflicts in Aceh, antaranews.com reported "We appreciate the residents for handing over these firearms. This action is crucial in ensuring the safety of our community, particularly as we approach the 2024 Elections,"Chief Nova said. Consisting of one long barrel and one short barrel, the firearms are currently secured in the police armory in the East Aceh Police Headquarters. He urged those possessing firearms illegally to surrender them to the police because illegal firearm possession violates Emergency Law Number 12 of 1951, with a penalty of up to 20 years in prison. "As we approach the 2024 Elections, let us create a secure, comfortable, peaceful, and harmonious legal environment in the East Aceh Police jurisdiction.
