Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed strong solidarity with Indonesia following the Israeli strike on the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) base in Naqoura on October 10, 2024. Speaking at the 14th ASEAN-UN Summit in Vientiane, Laos, he acknowledged that two Indonesian peacekeepers were injured in the attack.

“I extend my full solidarity to the Indonesian delegation. We stand with you and the people of Indonesia during this difficult time,” he said on Friday (11/10/2024).

Highlighting the urgent need for peace amid global unrest, Guterres pointed to the immense suffering in Gaza, which has spread to Lebanon, as well as ongoing crisis in Ukraine, Sudan, and Myanmar.

“The level of death and destruction in Gaza is unprecedented in my experience as Secretary-General,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Guterres also praised ASEAN for its efforts to promote global unity and assured regional countries of the UN's unwavering support.

“You can always count on my and the UN’s full backing in these critical efforts,” he asserted.
