Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has detected a strong solar storm expected to affect Indonesia over the next three days, urging the public to be cautious. 

The extreme storm, classified as G4, is set to occur from Friday to Sunday, 2024, with peak activity starting Friday (11/10/2024)..

Syrojudin, the BMKG's Head of Geophysical Potential, explained that the storm was triggered by a significant solar flare detected earlier this week. 

The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported that this flare, which occurred on 7 October 2024, caused a heavy geomagnetic storm on Earth.

Indonesia may experience notable disruptions in internet connectivity, especially for satellite-based systems like Starlink. 

Syrojudin advised everyone to be careful when using online services or radio communications during this time.

Drone operators in Indonesia are encouraged to avoid flying their unmanned aircraft, as they may lose control, and GPS accuracy could diminish.
