inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Vice Chair of Indonesian House of Representatives Muhaimin Iskandar says that the visit of Pope Francis shows the harmony of Indonesian community while also sending strong message of diversity,
“This visit is an acknowledgement that Indonesia is relatively able to maintain the harmony between religious communities amidst the turmoil in various parts of the world," said Muhaimin on Tuesday (9/3/2024).
In addition, the papal visit can also inspire and be the driving force for the realization of social justice in Indonesia.
“The presence of Pope Francis can be a reminder for us about fair development. Through Pope Francis' encyclical Laudato Si in 2015, he reminded us of the importance of maintaining the balance between development and nature," adds Muhaimin.
Thus, Muhaimin reminds the government to take future policies and governance based on the principles of justice; both social, ecological, climate, and intergenerational.
As scheduled, Pope Francis as the leader of the world's Catholics will undertake an apostolic journey to the Asia Pacific in September 2024. There are four countries that will be visited, namely Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, and Singapore.
