The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) together with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) installed the Weather Modification Technology during the visit of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to Papua.

According to the Jayapura Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Asep Khalid says that the weather modification is for the emergency response in Papua Province.

“This technology implementation is also to support president activity in Papua, such as today where he will celebrate the 40th National Child Day at Istora Papua Bangkit,” said Asep on Tuesday (7/23/2024).

He explains that the weather in Jayapura City often changes, therefore in supporting the smooth activity of the president in Papua, it requires a Weather Modification Technology.

Asep explains that in modifying weather with the technology, it will use NaCL to be spread into dense clouds that have the potential for rain.

“This method has been used by BNPB during the Mandalika MotoGP series, in East Nusa Tenggara in 2023,” said Asep.
