West Java Regional Police Evacuate Hiker Struck by Lightning

Inp.polri.go.id – Garut. Garut Sub-regional Police along with the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Cilawu District Military Command, and volunteers evacuate a mountain climber who struck by lightning, on Sunday (2/25/2024). The police chief, Superintendent Rohman Yonky Dilatha says the victim is from Lebak regency who climbed Cikuray Mountain. Rohman says that the victim, Akbar (21), was resting under a tree in Post 3 when it was raining. Akbar was climbing with his five other friends from Lebak and Pandeglang. When they were resting under a tree, a lightning struck the tree. His friends were thrown away by the impact while Akbar fell. Cilawu Sector Police Chief immediately sent rescue team to the location after receiving reports from Akbar’s friend. Akbar then was evacuated to Slamet Garut Hospital and found that Akbar suffered burns in his left abdomen and chest due to lightning struck. Akbar passed away and now he will be returned to his family to be buried. West Java Regional Police PR Chief, Senior Superintendent Jules Abraham Abast implores hikers and public to be careful when resting under a tree when raining as lighting may struck the tree.
