Inspector General Pipit Rismanto, Chief of West Kalimantan Regional Police, has reassured his commitment to providing protection for the Chairman of the University of Indonesia's Student Executive Board (BEM UI) Melki Sedek Huang. Huang and his family allegedly faced intimidation following his criticism of the Constitutional Court's (MK) decision on age limits for presidential and vice-presidential candidates. "I strongly refute any intimidation carried out by police officers against the Chairman of the BEM UI Melki Sedek Huang," he said on Friday (10/11/23). Addressing the intimidation allegations, he emphasized that the police are open to receiving official reports from individuals feeling threatened by specific elements within the force. "We, at West Kalimantan Regional Police, have been closely monitoring this situation. We welcome any reports of discomfort or intimidation by certain elements. Please report them officially to West Kalimantan Regional Police," he said. He reiterated the Indonesian National Police's (INP) commitment to ensuring the neutrality of all its members in the 2024 elections, emphasizing no signs of police involvement in the reported intimidation.
