West Papua Regional Police Chief Urge Press to Jointly Monitor the 2024 General Election

Inp.polri.go.id – West Papua. The West Papua Regional Police invites all media press in the province to continuously monitor the process of 2024 General Election in ensuring it goes accordingly. “Let us monitor the election together so that it would go smoothly, secure, with peace, and orderly,” says West Papua Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Jhonny Edison Isir on Sunday (1/21/2024). According to him, accurate and credible information from mass media will play a crucial role in succeeding the General Election across Indonesia. The mass media will act as the social control and has become one of the four pillars of democracy. Media press journalists should uphold the professional journalistic principle in accordance with journalistic code of ethics and Law Number 40 of 1999 concerning the press. “The policies covering the press are clear. Our media colleagues have the responsibility to provide information as it is the right of the people,” Jhonny continues. Moreover, he explains that the state officials including the Indonesian National Police require critique, suggestion, and recommendation from the press to answer various social issues happening amidst the society. “Our media colleagues are our important partners. Unseen concern felt by the community could be informed to us through journalism,” Jhonny adds. (ad/rz/pr/nm)
