Inp.polri.go.id – Kulonprogo. A whale shark found dead in Garongan Beach, Panjatan, Kulonprogo. The animal still could not be evacuated due to high wave.
The Search and Rescue of Glagah Beach Coordinator, Aris Widiatmoko says around 19:30 o’clock, they received an information from the community of the dead whale shark.
The unit then immediately dispatch a team to the location and found the animal near the beach and washed by waves.
"Last night the shark to was about to swept to the beach but because of the tide, the shark about to enter the sea again," he said, as reported by Inews, Wednesday (08/11/23). The same thing happened in the next morning at 07:10 o’clock.
The whale shark is estimated to have a long of 8-10 meters with a weight of 1.5 tons. The details of its death is still unknown.
The whale shark will be tied to its tail so as not to be dragged to the center of the sea. The incident has also been reported to BKSDA for further examination.
“Usually after the examination, the animal would be buried near the location to prevent it doesn’t cause smell,” conclude Aris.
