inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan claims several strategies have been prepared to ensure that Indonesia can realize the food self-sufficiency target in 2028.

According to him, the improvement in farm sector will play a vital role in accelerating the drive of realizing the food self-sufficiency target.

“All must be improved, from the seeds to its irrigation system. Previously, we just did improve the fertilizer by providing 9 million of it from the previous 4.5 million. As of now, we are aiming to improve all aspects of the farm sector, we want it to be optimized,” says Zulkifli on Thursday (10/31/2024).

Furthermore, he says that the rice field provision initiated by the Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman is one of the strategies that must continue to be followed up.

The Coordinating Minister for Food also emphasized the importance of utilizing technological innovations in the food sector such as the use of rice harvesting machines, spreading fertilizer with drones, and others.

According to him, many agricultural technologies can now be adopted by farmers and farmer groups. Furthermore, Indonesia must start switching to modern methods if it wants to increase agricultural productivity.

Previously, Zulkifli has revealed the strategy to achieve the target of food self-sufficiency within five years. The plan is by expanding farm lands outside Java.

The Coordinating Minister for Food said that he was specifically tasked by President Prabowo Subianto to realize food and energy self-sufficiency. To realize this, Papua will be the focus as it would be transformed into the national food barn.
