Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) has confirmed that the security measures for the first day of the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta proceeded smoothly and securely. Operational Assistant to the Chief of the INP Inspector General Verdianto Iskandar Bitticaca, explained that the INP was responsible for the third level of security, which included securing areas in South Jakarta, Central Jakarta, and East Jakarta. "The security situation is stable and safe. We are monitoring it closely," he said on Tuesday (5/9/23). He mentioned that while the security for Very Very Important Persons (VVIP) had been handled by the Indonesian Military (TNI), the fourth level of security also involved the INP, engaging personnel from the Banten Regional Police, the Metro Jaya Regional Police, and the West Java Regional Police. He stressed that this security operation closely mirrored the approach used during the G20 Summit, with the collaboration between the TNI and INP played a pivotal role in the success of these security measures. "In principle," he affirmed, "there have been no significant challenges as this is akin to our experience during the G20 Summit in Bali." The security for the 43rd ASEAN Summit involved more than 6.000 joint forces, divided into eight task forces (satgas) responsible for the third level of security. The eight task forces include preemptive, preventive, public order, convoy escort, law enforcement, public relations, operational support, and anti-terror units. The 43rd ASEAN Summit took place from September 5 to 7, 2023, in Jakarta and was attended by 22 countries, including 11 ASEAN member states, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Timor Leste. President Joko Widodo inaugurated the 43rd ASEAN Summit and presided over 12 meetings, including the 43rd ASEAN Summit in plenary and retreat formats, the 26th ASEAN-China Summit, the 24th ASEAN-South Korea Summit, the 26th ASEAN-Japan Summit, and the 11th ASEAN-United States Summit. Other meetings comprised the ASEAN-Canada Summit, the 26th ASEAN Plus Three Summit, the 20th ASEAN-India Summit, the 3rd ASEAN-Australia Summit, the 18th East Asia Summit (EAS), and the 13th ASEAN-United Nations (UN) Summit.
