Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has identified the causes of the cold temperatures across much of Java: the Australian Monsoon winds and the sun’s position in the northern hemisphere.

BMKG Deputy for Meteorology, Guswanto, explained on Tuesday (16/7/2024) that the dry Australian Monsoon winds, carrying little moisture, are blowing towards Asia across the Indian Ocean.

Combined with lower sea surface temperatures in the Indian Ocean, this leads to cooler weather in Indonesia, according to antaranews.com.

This cold weather is typical during the peak dry season from July to August and is expected to last until September. Regions like Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara experience cooler temperatures, especially in mountainous areas like Dieng in Central Java and Lembang in West Java.

BMKG forecasts colder mornings in these areas, with nighttime temperatures dropping significantly. The sun’s position in the northern hemisphere means less direct sunlight for southern Indonesia, further lowering temperatures.

BMKG advises the public to stay hydrated and consume foods rich in vitamins C and D to maintain immunity during this cold weather.
