The Indonesian National Anti-Narcotics Agency (BNN) confiscated 274.05 kilograms or 274,058.87 grams of narcotics from five cases of illicit drug trafficking in various regions in Indonesia. Of the five cases, 17 people were named as suspects. Head of BNN Police Commissioner General Petrus Reinhard Golose detailed, the types of narcotics evidence seized were 85.68 kilograms or 85,684.50 grams of methamphetamine; 61,200 grains or 6,436.90 grams of methamphetamine tablets (yaba); 323,822 grains or 129,920 grams of ecstasy; and 52.01 kilograms or 52,017.47 grams of cannabis. "If we look here, something new has started to enter Indonesia, which is called yaba. This is methamphetamine, but it is more well-known and circulating in Thailand,” he said, Friday (18/8/2023). Police Commissioner General Golose said that during the confiscation of 274.05 kilograms of narcotics, BNN managed to save 582,399 people from potential drug abuse. "Moreover, there are many so-called frugal packages used by young people, there could be even more," he said. The 17 suspects will be charged with Article 114 (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) Sub-Article 111 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1), and Article 112 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of the Law Narcotics Law No. 35 of 2009, with a maximum threat of death penalty or life imprisonment.
