inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. Member of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Rahmad Handoyo, appreciates the work of the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) for issuing the dangers of Bisphenol A (BPA) in bottled drinking water.

“This shows that their work brings benefit to the people,” he said, quoted from RRI, on Wednesday (7/24/2024).

In his statement he reveals that in foreign countries, there is research that mineral bottled water contains chemical compounds that form polycarbonate (PC) plastic which is dangerous to health.

“Not many people know about these polycarbonates. In foreign countries, research has shown that these chemical compounds affect our health,” said Rahmad.

Previously, BPOM has issued new rules regarding processed food labels based on the risk of BPA in mineral bottled water. In the new rules that have been rectified per April 1st, 2024, BPOM requires the inclusion of the potential dangers of BPA in mineral bottled water that uses polycarbonate packaging.

BPOM's new regulations regarding BPA labels include the addition of two articles that regulate BPA labeling obligations and how to store bottled drinking water. BPOM continues to review standards and regulations that have been established together with experts in the field of water safety and related Ministries/Agencies.
