Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) has ordered the recall of Okko bread following the discovery of sodium dehydroacetate, an unauthorized food additiv, through lab tests on samples from PT Abadi Rasa Food in Bandung.
In an official statement released on Wednesday (24/7/2024) that sodium dehydroacetate, also known as dehydroacetic acid, was present in the bread, which is not allowed under BPOM’s regulations.
The discovery came after an inspection on 2 July 2024 confirmed that the producer did not consistently apply proper food processing practices, according to antaranews.com.
Following this, BPOM has halted the production and distribution of Okko bread. The agency has instructed the producer to withdraw and destroy the product, reporting the results back to BPOM.
Sodium dehydroacetate, a chemical used in cosmetics with a maximum concentration of 0.6% as an acid, is not approved as a food additive under BPOM Regulation No. 11 of 2019.
