Inp.polri.go.id -  Jayapura.  The Damai Cartenz Operation Task Force 2024 continued its efforts for the release of Susi Air Pilot, Captain Philip Matk Marthens, who has been held hostage by the armed criminal group (KKB) led by Egianus Kogoya  in the Nduga Region, Papua. Superintendnet Dr. Bayu Suseno, the Head of Public Relations Unit for the Damai Cartenz Task Force, explained that negotiation and communication processes continued with Egianus by the local administration for the pilot’s release. "At present, negotiations with the Armed Criminal Group are being handled by the Acting Regent of Nduga because he has closeness and kinship with Egianus Kogoya," he said on Wednesday (31/1/2024). He added that various communications have been attempted, but no agreement has been reached. Communication efforts have been initiated by Acting Regent Edison Gwijangge, but as of today, there has been no agreement on the release of the Susi Air pilot," the spokesperson said. "The Damai Cartenz Task Force 2024, prioritized a soft approach first due to humanitarian considerations and the safety of the pilot himself," he explained. In connection with this, the Operation Chief of the Damai Cartenz Task Force, Senior Superintendent  Dr. Faizal Ramadhani expressed hope for the release of Captain Mehrtens in good health. "We hope that Susi Air Pilot Captain Philip Mark Marthens, held captive by the Armed Criminal Group, can be released, allowing him to return to his country in good health, especially to his family," he said. 7 February  2024 will mark one year since he was taken hostage by the KKB, after landing at Paro Airport in Nduga Regency, Papua Mountains last year.
