inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno ensured that disaster risk reduction efforts will remain a priority for the government during the Red and White Cabinet era.

Meanwhile, disaster risk reduction efforts that will be carried out by the government will refer to or combine with the work programs of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and several other ministries/institutions.

"The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture is ready to be assigned to things that are in accordance with its capabilities to reduce disaster risk as much as possible," said the Coordinating Minister for PMK, Monday (10/28/24).

He added that he would make maximum efforts to navigate the direction of disaster risk reduction policies between ministries/institutions, the legislature, and local governments.

Based on the results of his study together with the ranks of BNPB, coordination between the two is important because the effort requires the joint effort of both parties by dividing tasks  and maximizing budget items that can be utilized.

"On the other hand, it also puts BNPB, as an important stakeholder, on edge constantly as we don't know when a disaster will occur," said the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.

Based on BNPB data, throughout 2023, Indonesia experienced 5,400 disasters, 95 percent of which were hydrometeorological disasters such as floods, landslides, storms and some others were droughts and forest and land fires.

Although the number of disasters increased by 52 percent compared to the previous year, the impact of damage and the number of fatalities is significantly reduced thanks to technological innovation and disaster mitigation education that continues to be developed.
