inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Military observer and Co-founder of the Institute for Security and Strategic Studies (ISESS), Khairul Fahmi, said that the importance of using new technology increases the accountability of the Police.
One of them is the use of body cams for every police officer on duty in the field.
"The use of body cam will provide very important visual evidence. This can help in revealing events that occur in the field, not only based on confessions or witness statements," he said on Thursday (12/5/2024).
He explained that the use of body cams must also be supported by clear regulations so that its use can be more consistent and accountable.
"Hopefully this step can increase police accountability and help the investigation. It is important for the House of Representatives and Indonesian National Police to tighten the monitoring mechanism and ensure regulations that support the use of body cams," he explained.
Furthermore, he also highlighted the pressure from many parties for the use of firearms to be evaluated. The pressure occurred after the incident of a student shooting case in Semarang, Central Java, by the police.
"We often have heard this kind of pressure from many parties and an evaluation related to the use of firearms does need to be carried out. However, we also have to stress that the rules for the use of firearms are already clear," he explained.
