inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Religion Ministry saw that Gen Z has the pivotal role in maintaining the religion moderation in Indonesia. This is considering they are very well abled in digital skills and their inclusivity spirit makes them a valuable asset in spreading the tolerance values.

“The pivotal role for religion moderation in the country is undeniable. Youth nowadays really want to be tolerant and get close to technology. This is very relevant with Gen Z characteristics that are flexible, easy to adapt, and very close with the digital space,” said the Director of Teachers and Education Personnel of Directorate General of Islamic Education Thobib Al Asyhar in a written statement on Friday (7/26/2024).

According to him, as the generation who grew up close with the technology, Gen Z has a wide range of access to gain information. However this convenience also brought new challenges, such as being easily exposed to misinformation or provocations.

“The Generation Z must be taught on how to be critical in filtering the information,” advised Thobib.

However, Thobib also highlights the capabilities of Gen Z in processing the information quickly and effectively. This is what makes them able to be the bridge between community groups, including groups of different religions.

“The Generation Z can very well use social media to spread the good and tolerance values,” concludes Director Thobib.
