inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Chief of the Indonesian National Police (INP), General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, reveals several challenges faced by his institution in eradicating online gambling, one of which is the variety of methods for transactions.
"The payment instrument model that previously using bank accounts has now shifted to using payment gateways, QRIS, and e-wallets, and now they are shifting again to using crypto," explained General Sigit in a Hearing Session with Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives on Monday (11/11/2024).
In addition, the nominal amount to gamble that is getting smaller also played a factor in the expanding victims of online gambling.
"What used to be IDR 100,000 to 1 million for the minimum bet of the gambling, now has gone down to just IDR 10,000. This causes the spread of victims addicted to online gambling," he explained.
Other challenges are servers used for online gambling sites often moving around and located abroad. There are several countries that have become the breeding places for online gambling servers such as Taiwan, Thailand, Cambodia, the Philippines, and China, where these countries have different regulations about online gambling from Indonesia.
"There, some (online gambling) are legalized while in Indonesia it is illegal. This becomes a problem in itself in our effort eradicating online gambling," explained General Sigit.
