Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar. A Bali Safari and Marine Park elephant keeper was killed after being attacked by an elephant in Gianyar, Bali, according to the Bali Regional Police.

Bali Regional Police Head of Public Relations, Senior Superintendent Jansen Avitus Panjaitan, said on Tuesday (24/9/2024) the victim, identified as Komang Resi Yasa (27) died after the incident.

Investigations are ongoing, and the family plans to report the incident to Gianyar Police.

The incident occurred on 17 September 2024 around 9 a.m local time when Yasa and two colleagues, Suwoko and Gilang Romadhon, were herding an elephant named Gandi.

Suwoko, who was riding the elephant, noticed Gandi behaving unusually and warned Yasa to flee. Unfortunately, Yasa tripped and was repeatedly attacked by the elephant.

Despite efforts by Suwoko and Romadhon to control the elephant using a hook and spear, Yasa sustained severe injuries. Romadhon eventually managed to subdue Gandi with the help of female elephants, after which the elephant was tranquilized.

Yasa was rushed to Kasih Ibu Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Gianyar Sub-regional Police are investigating the case.
