Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin assesses climate change should be anticipated as it could affect the health system. According to him, climate changes can bring infectious diseases, which have the risk of causing pandemics, as well as non-communicable diseases.

Budi explains that the infectious disease could trigger new infectious disease due to interaction changes between animals and humans. Budi believes that the more often the changes, the higher the risk of another pandemic.

“For example the last Asia bird, then there was Covid who was said to be from the bats,” said Budi on Monday (4/29/2024).

Moreover, climate change could also push behavioral changes on animals, for example the Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes which cause dengue fevers. The mosquito's activity is heightened during El Nino.

“The cause of the climate change, El Nino, which usually occurred in tropical areas could eventually affect the higher equator region,” explains Budi.
