Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Director General of Human Rights at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Dhahana Putra, emphasized on Sunday (15/9/2024) the need to revise the 2012 Law on the Juvenile Criminal Justice System (UU SPPA) to clarify the rules for children in conflict with the law (ABH).

He highlighted the importance of ensuring effective rehabilitation opportunities for child offenders while protecting victims' rights, especially given the rise in crimes involving minors.

“The revision should address when rehabilitation is appropriate and when formal legal proceedings are necessary,” Dhahana said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The existing law promotes restorative justice and diversion, but Dhahana noted that rising cases of severe crimes by juveniles require adjustments to make the legal process fairer and more responsive.
