Inp.polri.go.id - Mataram. A joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team is using drones to locate a Russian national, identified as Mordovina Alexandra (44), who went missing after illegally climbing Mount Rinjani.

"We've been combing the Senaru trail since Friday," said Wahyu, the Head of SAR in Mataram, on Sunday (15/9/2024).

The search, which engaged the National Park, military, police, and the victim’s colleagues, also involved aerial surveillance using thermal drones.

"Two key areas under surveillance are the Sangkareang Peak and Santong Valley," Wahyu explained, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Despite covering several suspected locations, there were no signs of the missing climber. The victim, who was last seen at her lodging in Senaru on 30 August 2024, is believed to have started her hike early in the morning.

Local police also confirmed that the victim likely attempted the climb illegally. Search operations have been conducted along several routes including Senaru-Plawangan, Sangkareang, and Santong.
