The Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has streamlined the process of obtaining a Immigration Statement (SKIM) for former dual citizenship subjects who have not registered or have registered but have not chosen citizenship until age 21.
Director of Immigration Stay Permit Heru Tjondro said in a statement on Tuesday (5/3/3034) that this policy aims to facilitate Indonesian citizenship for former dual citizenship subjects, considering the limited grace period, until 31 May 2024.
"Former dual citizenship subjects can apply for SKIM electronically. The requirements are living in Indonesia for at least five years, proven with a diploma, village office letter, or Indonesian passport if available. SKIM applications must be made while in Indonesia," he said
Based on Government Regulation Number 21 of 2022, former dual citizenship subjects can get SKIM if in Indonesia, antaranews.com reported.
For dual citizenship children born and residing in Indonesia without SKIM requirements, they can use population data from the Civil Registry Office. Children born abroad and residing in Indonesia must apply for SKIM first.
Dual citizenship subjects are those born between 1 August 1988, and 31 July 2006, and meet the following criteria:
- Born of a lawful marriage between an Indonesian father and a foreign mother;
- Born of a lawful marriage between a foreign father and an Indonesian mother;
- Born out of wedlock from a foreign mother acknowledged by an Indonesian father before age 18 or marriage;
- Born outside Indonesia from Indonesian parents receiving citizenship from the country of birth;
- Indonesian children born out of wedlock, under 18, legally acknowledged by their foreign father;
- Indonesian children under 5 legally adopted by a foreigner.
