Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  President Prabowo Subianto’s administration aimed to expand Indonesia’s participation in global economic groups to unlock new opportunities that will benefit the people.

During his state visit to the United States on Wednesday (13/11/2024), he emphasized Indonesia’s intent to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and BRICS, a group of major emerging economies Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa known for their significant influence in global economic and political affairs.

“We want to be part of several groups to find the best opportunities for our economy. Our focus is on improving the welfare of our people,” said President Prabowo, as reported by antaranews.com.

Indonesia’s pursuit of BRICS membership in line with the government’s goals for food and energy security, poverty eradication, and sustainable natural resource management. At the same time, Indonesia’s interest in joining the OECD is part of a broader diplomatic and economic strategy.

President Prabowo’s visit was met with support from U.S. President Joe Biden, who endorsed Indonesia’s bid to accelerate its accession to the OECD, as stated in a joint statement issued by the White House on Tuesday.
