Inp.polri.go.id - Bandarlampung.  Rasio Ridho Sani, the Director General of Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, said that the authorities continued to investigate the recent deaths of Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) in two national parks. "The cases of Sumatran elephant deaths in the Tesso Nilo National Park and the Kerinci Seblat National Park are currently under investigation by the national parks," he said on Thursday (18/1/2024). Director General Rasio said that the national parks collaborate with the police and local administration for the investigations, asserting the central government concerns for the law enforcement against crimes involving protected animals and plants, antaranews.com reported. "We have been conducting operations for protected wildlife areas for several years. These animals and plants play a crucial role in the sustainability of the ecosystem. This is also a matter of national and international public concern," he added. On Wednesday, 10 January 2024, a Sumatran elephant under the care of the Tesso Nilo National Park (TNTN) in Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province, was found dead.
