Inp.polri.go.id - Labuan Bajo. A resident of Komodo Island in East Nusa Tenggara had a close encounter with a Komodo dragon, resulting in a bite that prompted a rapid response from the local Search and Rescue (SAR) team. "The victim was bitten by a Komodo near Loh Ginggo on Rinca Island, within the Komodo National Park," stated Supriyanto Ridwan, the Head of the National SAR Agency (Basarnas) in Maumere, on Tuesday (2/4/2024). The victim, identified as Romansyah (39), encountered the Komodo while searching for honey, as reported by antaranews.com. Upon receiving the incident report from the Water and Air Police Unit of the West Manggarai Sub-regional Police, the SAR team dispatched a Rigid Inflatable Boat equipped with emergency supplies. Upon arrival, the team swiftly evacuated the victim and transported them to Labuhan Bajo. "The victim sustained injuries from the Komodo bite, with visible wounds on their arms and legs," explained Supriyanto. The victim was subsequently taken to the hospital for further medical attention. Komodo dragons possess a venomous bite that lowers blood pressure, prevents blood clotting, and induces paralysis. The bacteria in their saliva, from decaying flesh, can lead to infection and worsen the victim's condition.
