Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Langsa Sub-regional Police in Aceh, have arrested three Bangladeshi men on suspicion of smuggling 137 Rohingya immigrants into Indonesia via Kuala Parek, a region within the Sungai Raya Sub-district of East Aceh Regency. The Langsa Police Chief, Superintendent Andy Rahmansyah, announced on Tuesday (18/3/2024) in Langsa that the detention and designation of these three individuals as smuggling suspects came after an extensive investigation by the police. He explained that these Bangladeshi nationals were previously part of a group of Rohingya immigrants who arrived in Kuala Parek, within the jurisdiction of Langsa District Police. The detained individuals are identified as MH (49), the ship's captain, MS (27), the ship's engine technician, and AT (46), the ship's cook. The investigation into the human trafficking case began when 137 Rohingya immigrants arrived on the shores of Gampong Kuala Parek, Sungai Raya Sub-district, East Aceh Regency, aboard a single ship on 1 February 2024, around 1 am. Following their arrival, the police conducted thorough examinations, revealing that the immigrants had left Bangladesh for Indonesia in December 2023, with each paying 100 thousand taka, Bangladeshi currency, or roughly Rp14 million. The investigation revealed that the Rohingya immigrants deliberately left Bangladesh and entered Indonesia illegally. However, AS, the agent responsible, remains at large in Bangladesh. Presently, the three Bangladeshi nationals are detained at the Langsa District Police Detention Center, facing charges under the Immigration Law Number 6 of 2011 and the Criminal Law, that carries  a minimum of five years to a maximum of 15 years imprisonment.
