Inp.polri.go.id - Medan. A Sumatran tigress named Si Manis at Medan Zoo died from illness in her enclosure on Friday.
Veterinarian Dr. Muhammad Syah said on Sunday (22/9/2024). that Si Manis suffered from severe health issues. A necropsy conducted by the North Sumatra Conservation Agency revealed significant ailments affecting her liver, heart, and kidneys.
“There were serious lesions on her liver, and both her heart and kidneys showed signs of damage,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com..
At around 23 years old, Si Manis arrived at the zoo in 2005 alongside a male tiger named Anggi.
Her death marked the sixth tiger loss at Medan Zoo, following the deaths of three other Sumatran tigers and two Bengal tigers earlier this year.
Si Manis had been receiving intensive care since May 2024, but her health deteriorated recently, leading to her refusal to eat.
Medan Zoo Director Adrian Surbakti emphasized ongoing improvements in animal care at the zoo.
