inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Environment and Forestry (LHK), Siti Nurbaya declared Mutis Timau National Park in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) as the 56th National Park in Indonesia.

“The Mutis Timau National Park will not just be the lungs of East Nusa Tenggara, but also become the symbol and important effort implementation to protect, preserve and utilize the biodiversity sustainably, fairly and responsibly for future generations," said the Minister Siti on Monday (9/9/2024).

Minister Sit says that the declaration marks the government commitment in protecting the biodiversity in the area, which is rich in endemic flora and fauna, and is an important habitat for various protected species.

In addition, Mutis Timau National Park plays an important role in the lives of the community as a provider of medicine raw materials, natural honey, dye materials for weaving, water sources, locations for traditional rituals for the local community as well as other traditional uses that have been carried out for generations.

The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, is also actively increasing efforts to preserve the environment and conserve natural biological resources.

Acting Regent of South Central Timor Seperius Edison Sipa expressed his appreciation for the declaration. He stated that this was a step forward for the East Nusa Tenggara Province, especially the Regencies of South Central Timor, North Central Timor and Kupang in developing conservation-based nature tourism, which will provide economic benefits while preserving natural heritage.

"This will be a source of pride for the people of Timor, considering that previously there were only national parks in Flores and Sumba. This also strengthens the trust of the people who consider Mutis as Mother or Mama for the people of Timor," said Acting Regent Seperius.
