President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has appointed Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian as the Acting Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, succeeding former Minister Mahfud Md., who has recently tendered his resignation. "Today, the President has signed Presidential Decree Number 20/P of 2024, which includes the honorable dismissal of Mr. Mahfud Md. as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, and the appointment of Mr. Tito Karnavian as the Acting Minister with the authority and responsibilities of a Coordinating Minister," Presidential Special Staff Coordinator Ari Dwipayana said in a brief message in Jakarta on Friday (2/2/2024). According to the decree, Ari said that Minister Tito will serve as the Acting Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs in the Cabinet for the period 2019—2024 until a definitive appointment is made, antaranews.com reported. Former Minister Mahfud Md. tendered his resignation directly to  President Jokowi at Merdeka Palace on Thursday. Mahfud, who is the vice-presidential candidate this year, expressed his desire to step down to set an example for other state officials, urging them not to misuse their positions and state facilities for election campaigns.
