Mount Anak Krakatau erupted on Thursday (14/12/23) at 10.10 am, spewing volcanic ash as high as 800 meters above the summit or 957 meters above sea level, the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) reported. The eruption, distinguished by a plume of gray ash directed streaming northward, was initially detected at 05.37 am. Observations pinpointed the plume's location at approximately 1000 meters from the summit, soaring to an elevation of 1,157 meters above sea level. The seismographic data registered a maximum amplitude of 55 mm and a duration of 20 seconds. Andi Suardi, Head of the Mount Anak Krakatau Monitoring Post in Hargopancuran, Lampung Province, said that the current status of Mount Anak Krakatau is at the Level III or Alert. The PVMBG swiftly issued a warning, strongly urging residents to exercise caution by steering clear of Mount Anak Krakatau and refraining from venturing within a five-kilometer radius of the volcano's active crater.
