Inp.polri.go.id - Mataram. The Regional Sub-Task Force (Subsatgasda) for the Enforcement of Human Trafficking Crimes (TPPO) under the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Police has thwarted the recruitment of 13 prospective Indonesian Migrant Workers (CPMI) through non-procedural means.

"This operation was thwarted thanks to a report from one of the victims who managed to escape from a shelter in Jakarta. After three months in the shelter without any clarity regarding their departure abroad, the informant, along with three other victims who were financially incapable of sustaining themselves in Jakarta, made the decision to return to Lombok and report the incident to us," explained Police Senior Superintendent Teddy Ristiawan, the Director of General Crimes Investigation of the NTB Regional Police, as quoted on the antaranews on Monday (12/6/23).

He further revealed that the Subsatgasda conducted an investigation and successfully uncovered the involvement of two suspects with the initials SR and HW. Suspect SR played a key role as the head of a vocational training institution (LPK) named Lombok Jaya Internasional, responsible for recruiting and promising the victims job opportunities abroad.

"The suspects have been identified and will face charges under Article 10 and/or Article 11, in conjunction with Article 2 and/or Article 4, of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the TPPO, as well as Article 81 in conjunction with Article 69 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 18 of 2017 concerning the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PPMI)," he stated.

He also provided assurance that the Subsatgasda has taken measures to secure and support the victims.

"The funds collected from the victims were obtained by the suspects, under the pretense of training and administrative fees required for Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) seeking employment overseas. As for suspect HW, his role resembled that of an agent, guiding the victims in their applications to three Indonesian Migrant Worker Placement Companies (P3MI) in Jakarta," he said.
