Police Name 3 Treason Suspects From KNPB

Inp.polri.go.id - Sorong. The Sub-Regional Police Tambrauw, Southwest Papua, named three of the 19 members of the Tambrauw Sector West Papua National Committee (KNPB) as treason suspects. They allegedly attempted to declare and inaugurate the KNPB governing body in Sarwom Village, Bamusbama District.

The Chief Of Sub Regional Police Tambrauw, Police Superintendent Bendot Dwi Prasetyo explained the three suspects had the initials UK, Y, and WY respectively.

"Allegedly committing the crime of treason and violating Article 106 of the Criminal Code. Meanwhile, we named 16 other people as witnesses, and have been returned to their respective families," said Police Superintendent Bendot Dwi Prasetyo, Monday (12/6/23).

Police Superintendent Bendot Dwi Prasetyo said the suspect UK served as Secretary General of the KNPB for the Maybrat and Sorong Raya Regions with the task of being an initiator who gathered the community and indoctrinated and recruited them to join KNPB activities.

"The UK suspect is also one of the KNPB Maybrat leaders. The UK is tasked with spreading separatist ideas that want to separate from the Unitary Republic of Indonesia and be independent and recruit new members," he said.

Meanwhile, the suspect with the initials Y played a role as a courier or intelligence officer in the newly formed Tambrauw KNPB organizational structure. Then, the suspect WY acted as a security guard in charge of maintaining security during the declaration and inauguration activities.

The arrest of 19 members of the Tambrauw Sector KNPB began with information from the public that there would be a declaration and inauguration of the Tambrauw Sector KNPB Management Board.

Police Superintendent Bendot Dwi Prasetyo added, until now the situation in Bamusbama after the arrest was in a safe and conducive condition, and there were no threats from any party.

"We, the Indonesian National Police and the Indonesian National Armed Force guarantee security in the Tambrauw area," said Police Superintendent Bendot Dwi Prasetyo.
