Inp.polri.go.id - Indramayu.  Panji Gumilang, the leader of Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School, has been released from Indramayu Prison, West Java, after serving a one-year sentence for religious blasphemy.

"Panji Gumilang was released on the morning of 17 July 2024," said Robianto, the Head of the Correctional Division at the West Java Ministry of Law and Human Rights, in Indramayu on Wednesday (17/7/2024).

Panji Gumilang’s acquittal meant he is not required to report regularly. During his imprisonment, he was also granted a 15-day remission for Eid al-Fitr.

On 20 March 2024, Panji Gumilang was sentenced to one year in prison for religious blasphemy. The verdict was read by Presiding Judge Yogi Dulhadi at the Indramayu District Court, who found Panji guilty of violating Article 156a of the Penal Code and the Blasphemy Law.

The one-year sentence was lighter than the prosecutor's demand for one year and six months. The sentence was adjusted to account for the time Panji had already spent in detention during the trial.
