Inp.polri.go.id – Papua. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued a warning for potential extreme weather in several areas in Indonesia, including Papua Province on Sunday (5/5/2024) and Monday (5/6/2024). The extreme weather includes heavy rain, thunder, strong winds, and high waves.

“People are urged to preserve the environment by not littering and avoid deforestation,” said the Head of Papua Regional Police Public Relations Division, Senior Superintendent Benny Ady Prabowo.

Moreover, he also implores people to be more aware with the threat of flood, landslide, and fallen trees.

“We also want to remind those who are sailing the waters with the potential of high waves and we urged you to be careful,” continued Benny.

In face of those issues, his party will collaborate with related stakeholders to form disaster response units from village to province level. The team will work in monitoring the environment and detect the early signs of flash flood, landslide, strong winds, and high waves.

“We will also prepare and manage our HR, logistics, equipment, facilities for the disaster response,” concludes Benny.
