inp.polri.go.id - Musi Banyuasin. The West Sumatra Regional Police Chief, Inspector General A Rachmad Wibowo firmly stated the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) and the Contractor of Collaboration Contracts (KKKS) to close the oil well permanently following incident at the swamp area of the Dawas Parung River, in Srigunung Village, Sungai Lilin District, Musi Banyuasin Regency on Sunday (21/7/24),

The illegal oil well was reportedly on fire and was said to be done intentionally by opening the valve covering the well and damaging the oil pipeline to the seller or storage tank, causing a burst and oil spills and causing fires.

“It is clear we need solid synergy and cooperation with related stakeholders in handling this case. South Sumatra Regional Police currently handle the criminal case and convey socialization to the public regarding the dangers to the environment,” says Rachmad.

Meanwhile, the Musi Banyuasin Sub-regional Police Chief, Superintendent Listiyono says there have been leaks in valves and oil pipes that allegedly were damaged by the public to extract the oil. The burst of the oil reached four meters high and emits very strong gas.

Previously, Petro Muba had closed the well with a valve and made a pipe channel leading to the reservoir following the initial fire some time ago.

“However, on Sunday early morning, there was a leak, causing a fire which killed a person. We from Sungai Lilin Sector Police and Mobile Brigade personnel continue to urge the people to not take the oil from there as it is dangerous,” said Listiyono.

Currently local authorities are coordinating with SKK Migas, Petro Muba and the regional government of Musi Banyuasin discussing the next step in resolving this issue.
