Transportation Minister to Address Violence at STIP Marunda

Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi took action to address violence at the state maritime institute Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Pelayaran (STIP) Marunda following the fatal assault of a cadet.

STIP Marunda is run by the Ministry of Transportation.

Accompanied by Acting Head of the Ministry’s Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) Subagyo, the minister made the remark after hi's visit to the home of the family of the late junior Putu Satria Ananta Rustika on Thursday (9/5/2024).

Minister Budi Karya expressed deep regret over the incident and visited the family of the late Putu . 

He announced Immediate measures include a moratorium on cadet admissions and enhancing digital reporting to reduce bullying. In the medium term, soft skills will be prioritized, interactions between cadets will be regulated, and uniform attributes will be eliminated, antaranews.com reported. 

"We will prohibit activities that can encourage bullying, including eliminating ranks and seniority designations within the school," Minister Budi Karya said,

The Ministry aimed to transform transportation schools into centers for producing skilled and morally upright professionals. Internally, curriculum changes emphasized practical skills for maritime employment, he added.

Minister Budi Karya that improvements will also be implemented in other schools under the Ministry of Transportation, vowing to make schools under his ministry produce quality transportation personnel, both in terms of expertise and skills, and in terms of character and morality.

The North Jakarta Metropolitan Sub-regional Police has named four students as suspects in the death of Putu.
