These debunked rumors, labeled as hoaxes, were clarified after discussions with the Russian Embassy, he said on Thursday (21/3/2024). General Subiyanto emphasized Indonesia's stance against mercenaries, reported by antaranews.com.

Echoing this stance, General Maruli Simanjuntak, Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army, reinforced the implausibility of military involvement in such activities. He highlighted stringent monitoring, including daily roll calls, which would quickly detect any absence. The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Indonesia has documented foreign mercenaries, including 10 Indonesians, fighting for Ukraine. The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called for further verification of these allegations.
