inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The spread of HIV cases in Indonesia shows a high concentration in several regions. The Ministry of Health noted that 76 percent of the total estimated people with HIV (PLHIV) in the country are concentrated in only 11 provinces.
The eleven provinces include DKI Jakarta, East Java, West Java, Central Java, North Sumatra. Then Bali, Papua, Central Papua, South Sulawesi, Banten, and the Riau Islands.
This finding is also a highlight in efforts to strengthen early detection and HIV treatment services.
"PLHIV means people who have been infected with HIV, both old and new, because HIV is lifelong. So the estimate of PLHIV living in Indonesia in 2025 is 564 thousand people. That's what we have to find so they know about their condition," said the Director of Infectious Diseases at the Ministry of Health, Ina Agustina Isturini, in an online media meeting on Friday (6/20/2025).
As of March 2025, of the estimated 564,000 PLHIV, around 356,638 or 63 percent have been found. Of that number, 67 percent have undergone antiretroviral (ARV) treatment and 55 percent have shown suppressed viruses.
"This means that 55 percent have succeeded in suppressing the number of viruses to the point where they are no longer infectious. But we still have a big job to find the rest," she said.
Furthermore, Ina said that her party often encountered challenges and not infrequently some PLHIV disappeared when they wanted to be followed up. This caused 95 percent of PLHIV who were alive and knew their status to not be found.
The Ministry of Health is targeting the achievement of 95-95-95 in 2030, namely 95 percent of PLHIV to know their status. Then 95 percent of PLHIV undergo treatment, and 95 percent of them have succeeded in suppressing the virus so that it is not infectious.
